Construction clean-up is much more than basic house cleaning and even deep cleaning. Whether it is a remodel clean up, brand new construction of a residential or large office building, you will need different cleaning products and tools to produce solid work. Generally, there are three phases: an initial cleaning, the preliminary cleaning, and lastly the final cleaning.

The initial clean consists of clearing all the construction debris, including dust, caulk, overspray of paint and the removal of adhesives from new products. Some helpful tools will be razor blades, a putty knife, and an all-purpose cleaner. During this process, stickers may be removed from any windows, doors, or glass. Sometimes a rough clean is completed by the general contractors doing the construction work. If not, it is outsourced to a cleaning crew.

Preliminary cleaning will generally include all the wiping down of all the hard surfaces to remove excess construction dust. This will include countertops and appliances if they are already installed and floors. While construction work is typically still in process, the purpose of this cleaning is to simply tidy up the job site. It is likely that the inside of cabinets will be cleaned at this point.

The last step in construction clean-up is the final cleaning. This is to be completed after all construction workers have completed their final punch list. All surfaces are given a detailed cleaning. As this is the last thing to be completed, all fixtures, appliances, countertops, cabinetry, walls, baseboards, glass and windows will be thoroughly cleaned and all evidence of dust will be removed to ready the property for its new owner.
